So, what is this web site? Before I answer that, let me tell you about kolatchkies -- and why they are so important to The Berwyn Kid!
Kolatchkies Kolatchkies are a small pastry about two inches square or two inches in diameter if they are round. They have different fillings set in pastry dough similar to what you find in a sweet roll. The fillings are usally apricot or cream cheese, but you can use any filling your prefer. Kolatchkies originated in Czechoslovakia and Poland.
When I was growing up in the Chicago suburb of Berwyn in the 1940s and 1950s, there were dozens of Czech and Polish bakeries in Berwyn and the neighboring suburb of Cicero. Czechs and Poles, Italians and Germans, amd English and Irish were the main ethnic groups in these two communities for most of the 20th Century. In a word, bakeries were everywhere! And so were kolatchkies!
Kolatchkies are good for your physical and mental health. Case in point: For almost 40 years, a rock band from Berwyn has retained its youthful zeal and drive. Do you know whom I mean? Hint: This is a mega rock band. All of the original members are still with the band. To find out their name, and to learn more about Berwyn, click Berwyn -- or the button in the sidebar by the same name.

About this Site There are several reasons why i have built this web site.
First, to earn some extra money! I have been an Associate of Amazon.com for five years. All but the "Music" button at the top of the page will take you to a page with Amazon ads. I have used Amazon's new widgets (introduced in September 2007) to build these pages. Looking for nostalgia items, movies, books, or CDs? Click any of these buttons for a glimpse of Amazon's great movies selection. You can even watch a preview of many of these films! Cool!
Now, how would like to enjoy some big band music? Click the "Music" button -- or, click the Tuxedo Junction or Palomar buttons at the bottom of this page. Perhaps you're an early rhythm n'blues or classic rock n'roll fan. No problem! Click the Club Alibi button at the bottom.
